I remember putting TSAC songs on mixes in high school. I first found them while searching Napster for songs by Cake and they ended up next to They Might Be Giants and Ben Folds on these CDs I would burn and give to friends/mail to my penpal. *One of these things is not like the other*
Some nice TSAC fan posted video of his dog with this song. The acronym TSAC makes me think of Tri-State Athletic Club, the place where I used to lifeguard in high school in Southern Indiana. It was okay. This song is better.
Before he was in The Sea and Cake, Sam Prekop was in a band called Shrimp Boat. I can’t find any of their songs, so this video is video of an actual shrimp boat.
The Coctails were Archer Prewitt’s band before he was in The Sea and Cake. This is them performing live at a benefit for a local cable access dance show in 1992. Surely a worthy cause. I don’t know what song(s) they’re playing. This video is hilarious and confusing. It’s okay if you don’t watch the whole thing. I didn’t.
I sometimes wonder if The Sea and Cake decided to get together because they have awesome names. Sam Prekop, in addition to having an awesome last name and another TSAC solo project, makes good music that is mellow and catchy and incredibly good. Surprise! Who would have guessed? Everyone, Russ. Everyone.
Archer Prewitt’s solo stuff is so, so good. (I recommend the album “White Sky.”) It’s really similar to a lot of music that I find really really boring, but Archer is better than that. He keeps it a little funky, a little jazzy, a little poppy. In a good way. I can’t think of a way to describe his music that would make me want to listen to it had I not heard it already. But it’s great, I promise.
